AL Systems Partners With Genesta to Offer Leading Distributors and Retailers Voice-Directed Solutions
Rockaway, NJ – July 12, 2005—To offer its clients the advantages of voice-directed technology, AL Systems (www.alsystemsinc.com), a provider of integrated solutions that speed the flow of merchandise through distribution centers, has introduced Genesta’s SyVox™ speech logistics software into its paperless picking and putting applications.
“As a Genesta i ntegration partner we are able to provide important new benefits to our clients,” said Paul Lightfoot, president and CEO of AL Systems. “Speech-directed technology is in demand by retail, manufacturing and distribution companies because it helps free the hands and eyes of mobile workers, enabling greater accuracy, increased productivity, lower turnover, reduction in accidents and more effective management of employees.”
The SyVox speech client, featuring IBM’s ViaVoice® technology, is speaker-independent, meaning that it can recognize the speech of any individual without the need to “learn” unique speaking patterns and mannerisms. Because SyVox was designed for Microsoft's Windows CE and versatile Pocket PC Mobile operating systems, users can also perform non-speech applications such as terminal emulation and Internet access, allowing a single device to be used for all data collection needs. Additionally, because SyVox is compatible with leading technology devices, users do not have to switch from hardware vendors such as Intermec® or Symbol®.”
AL Systems engineers tasked with evaluating and recommending available speech-directed applications were also impressed that SyVox is multi-modal, enabling the retrieval and entry of data via keyboard, barcode scanner and radio frequency identification (RFID), as well as through voice.
“We selected Genesta primarily because of SyVox’s ease-of-use,” said Shrinivas Yawalkar, director of application development for AL Systems. “As an XML-based application that runs on off-the-shelf Pocket PCs, it requires no proprietary hardware and plugs in instantly into our time-tested DynaPick application. This enables us to offer our clients the AL Systems/SyVox solution for about $3500 per device, less than half the cost of our leading competitors.” “We are pleased to be teaming up with AL Systems,” said Kelson Elam, Genesta’s managing director. “This provides us an opportunity to enter new markets, such as apparel distribution, where AL has been established for over 25 years.”
