For a long time, the J. Jill Group has wanted to implement a put-to-light system for order processing at its warehouse, but the company knew it needed to grow a little first.
Founded in 1987, J. Jill initially flourished as a catalog providing relaxed career and weekend wear to active, affluent women between the ages of 35 and 55. This underserved demographic was looking for casual clothes that weren’t too young or too old.
By 1990, the company (which was acquired by Talbots last year) had morphed into a multi-channel operation by not only launching an e-Commerce web site, but also aggressively opening full price stores.
Glenn Broderick, J. Jill’s director of retail distribution, joined J. Jill in 2000 when the company had only six stores. His job was to set up systems to support 300 to 400 stores across the country.
